This week we will celebrate Easter, beginning with Good Friday—the day we remember that Jesus died for us. What is good about that?! Of course, Jesus dying is very sad and would have even been scary for Jesus’ friends, but for us it means that we can someday go to heaven…so for us it is very good!
How does Jesus dying get us to heaven? Sin separates us from God and we all have a big sin problem. Jesus’ death paid the penalty for sin, even though he had never done anything wrong. Jesus took the consequences that were really ours to have. If we ask him to, he forgives us and we get a new start…free from sin.
But what make Easter so awesome, is that Jesus didn’t stay dead. I know it sounds unbelievable, but Jesus came back to life. He spent more than a month proving to his followers that he really was alive again. The Bible tells us that death wasn’t the end of Jesus’ story and for those who believe, it’s not the end of our story either. Someday, everyone who believes that Jesus is the Son of God and chooses to make him their king, will get to live in heaven with him too.
Easter truly is an awesome time of year with lots for us to celebrate!
