“Apollos refuted the Jews with powerful arguments in public debate. Using the Scriptures, he explained to them that Jesus was the Messiah.” (Acts 18:28, NLT)
After living in Corinth for a year and a half, Paul decided it was time to move on and Aquila and Priscilla agreed to become part of the team that traveled with Paul. While they were in Ephesus, Priscilla and Aquila heard a young man named Apollos teaching about Jesus. He obviously knew what he was talking about and he was very persuasive, but Priscilla and Aquila realized that there was information Apollos still didn’t know. They pulled him aside and took the time to explain things about Jesus more fully. Apollos took their lesson to heart and became even more powerful, preaching about Jesus, explaining to people that He had been the Messiah, and showing from the Old Testament, how Jesus filled the prophecies about God’s promised rescuer.
Think about it...
• When Paul decided to move on from Corinth, Aquila and Priscilla agreed to join his group. Where did they go?
• Priscilla and Aquila heard someone teaching about Jesus who was not part of their group. What was his name?
• Apollos obviously knew a lot about Scripture and was very convincing. How did Priscilla and Aquila help Apollos?
• Apollos was a very convincing teacher. What did he convince people of?
Prayer: Thank you, God, that you brought Aquila and Priscilla to Ephesus, so that they could help Apollos get even better at sharing the truth about Jesus. Help me to learn more about you and be willing to share with others what I know. Help me to be a good student and a willing teacher, when it comes to knowing about Jesus.
