“Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go back to Pharaoh and announce to him, ‘This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so they can worship me.” (Exodus 8:1)
Moses returned to Egypt with his family and was met by his brother Aaron, who God had sent to help Moses. They met with the leaders of the Israelites and told them God’s plan. They were very happy! But when Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh, he didn’t believe them. Instead of letting them go, Pharaoh made their work even more difficult. The slaves were required to make bricks, but now they would have to find their own supplies without reducing the amount they made. Now the Israelites were very unhappy! Moses wanted to see the people given help…but it seemed that by trying to help he had only made things worse.
Think about it...
• Moses was a reluctant leader, but he agreed to do what God wanted him to. Who did God send to help Moses?
• Moses and Aaron met with the Israelite leaders to tell them that God had a plan to rescue them from slavery. How did they respond?
• Moses and Aaron then met with Pharaoh to tell him that he needed to let God’s people go. How did he respond?
• Pharaoh didn’t listen to Moses and Aaron, but he decided to make life harder for the slaves. What did he make them do?
• Now the people were unhappy with Moses! What would you have done if you were him?
Prayer: Thank you, God, that Moses obeyed you even when he didn’t know how things were going to turn out. Thank you that we can trust you just like Moses did, even when things don’t turn out the way we expect them to.
