Jesus helped others…I should too!
Isaiah 58:7, NLT
“Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.”
Jesus was always quick to help people who needed his help. If they were sick, he healed them. If they were hungry, he fed them. If they needed knowledge, he taught him. He did all of these things because he loved people and he hated to see them suffer. That’s because he was compassionate.
When we see people with needs, we should do the same thing. We should be compassionate and want to help others…whether it’s visiting someone who is lonely, sharing our stuff or just being available to help out.
The world’s full of big problems and people who are in need, but if we all chose to be compassionate and help out, even if all we can do is just a little bit, imagine how many fewer needs people would have.
Engage:
• Jesus was compassionate and so helped others when he saw their needs. What kinds of ways did Jesus help others?
• The world is full of big problems. What could happen if everyone did what they could to help others, just like Jesus?
• What are some of the needs that others have? How can you help?
• Our weekly verse tells us that if we don’t show compassion, we don’t have God’s love in us. What does that mean? How can we be sure to show God’s love to others?
Weekly verse:
1 John 3:17, NLT – “If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?”
Prayer – Dear God, thank you that I can help others. No matter how big the problems of this world are, you can help me to make someone else’s life better. Help me to look for creative ways to show love to everyone around me. Help me be compassionate like Jesus.
2022 Theme verses:
Colossians 2:6-7, NLT – “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
