“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.” (Luke 6:37, NLT)

Jesus warned us about only seeing the faults in others and ignoring our own. It’s okay to want to help someone when we see that they’re having trouble, but too often we look down on people who do things we think are ‘bad.’ But God tells us that there isn’t anyone who is good. We all do things that are bad, so we should never look down on someone for their mistakes...or think of ourselves as better, because we all make mistakes. Some people think that Jesus meant we should never judge something as good or bad, but that’s isn’t what He said at all. He didn’t mean we shouldn’t try to help others when we see them making mistakes. We should, but we first need to make certain that we aren’t guilty of stuff we haven’t dealt with or have been trying to ignore.

Think about it...
• People make mistakes and bad choices. Why shouldn’t we look down on others when they do?
• We are never to condemn others or think we’re better than them. When someone is having trouble with a problem, what should we do instead?
• Sometimes we don’t see the things we do as bad, even when they are. How can we be sure not to let any ‘logs’ get in our ‘eyes?’
• God is the judge because only He is perfect. Why shouldn’t we judge others as ‘bad?’

Prayer: Thank you, God, that even though we make mistakes, you still love us…all of us! No one is more special than another and no one is worse than another…we all make bad choices. Jesus is the only one who lived a perfect life. Help me not to judge someone as ‘bad,’ but always be ready to help and to remember that I need help sometimes too.
