Jesus told us that when we focus on doing God’s work, we don’t need to be concerned about what to eat or wear, because God will provide…just like he does for the birds and the flowers. Does this mean that we can stop doing grocery shopping or finding clothing to wear? No. What it means is that we don’t need to worry about making certain there is lots of money in the bank—we don’t have to put our trust in our bank accounts, but God. We don’t have to worry about always having to work for fear we will run out, but can take time off to spend with our families and friends…somethings are more important than a bigger pay cheque. We don’t need to concern ourselves with whether we will have enough money tomorrow, next week, next month or even next year. We need to focus on being obedient to do the things God tells us are important…like being generous, loving God and others, helping the needy, telling others about how much Jesus loves them. When we do, God will in turn help us by providing the things we need.

Family goal:
What is one way your family can show God that you love him more than money?
[Be sure to pick a measurable goal involving a task so that children will know when they have completed it.]

Weekly verses:
Matthew 6:33, NLT – “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

Family activities:
• Colour the picture of the beautiful lilies…here today and gone tomorrow.
• Make a bird to remind you not to worry…after all, if birds don’t worry, why should we?

Prayer:
Thank you, God for your promise to take care of us. As long as we are living to serve you, we don’t have to worry about all the ‘what ifs.’ You already know everything we need and everything in the future, and because you love us, we can trust you!
