As the Church grew, so did the needs of those who followed Jesus. Unfortunately, some complaints arose…not everyone was being treated fairly. When the apostles decided to find some trustworthy men to oversee the food distribution, Stephen was an obvious choice. His faith in Jesus was strong, he performed miracles, he was wise and convincing and he relied on the Holy Spirit to help him. He was a man that others in the church trusted to be fair to all those in need. He had a good reputation!

Stephen was chosen along with six others to run the food program …it was a big responsibility. But with these men in charge of taking care of people who needed help, the apostles could focus on teaching people about Jesus.

Family goal:
How can we build a good reputation?
______________________________
[Be sure to pick a measurable goal involving a task so that children will know when they have completed it.]

Weekly verse:
Proverbs 22:1, NLT – “Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.”

Family activities:
• Colour the picture of Stephen delivering food to the widows.
• Takes turns with the responsibility of sharing up dessert or favourite treat for your whole family. Remind everyone to do so fairly, just like Stephen.

Prayer:
Thank you, God that when we show you that we can be trusted with small responsibilities, you trust us with larger ones, just like Stephen. Help us to always work to do a good job and to treat others fairly, just like Stephen did.
