Jesus called the Holy Spirit our Advocate. Like God the Father and God the Son, Jesus, the Holy Spirit is also God. But it isn’t that there are three Gods…there’s still just One. The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit all share the same nature of God, but serve different roles as our God. Jesus promised that he would send the Holy Spirit after he left, so that we would still have an Advocate with us. He also called the Holy Spirit God the Father’s gift to us. Why is that? Because he helps us in so many ways!

As an Advocate, the Holy Spirit works to help us by
• giving us gifts to use to serve God
• giving us power to obey God as his ambassadors…to tell others all around the world about him and what he’s done for us
• growing his fruit in our lives—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control—so that we can become like Jesus
• he reminds us of Jesus’ teaching and helps us to understand
• he convicts us when we don’t live as we should for God and guides us when we don’t know which way to go
• he also prays for us, encourages us and so much more!
The Holy Spirit lives within every person who has chosen to follow Jesus. When we ask Jesus to forgive us, he does; and when we decide to live for him, he gives us the Holy Spirit to help us to do so.

Family goal:
Jesus knows that we need help to obey him so God has given us the Holy Spirit to help us. Can you find someone to help too?
[Be sure to pick a measurable goal involving a task so that children will know when they have completed it.]

Weekly verses:
John 16:13, NLT – “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”
Family activities:
• Colour the Bible verse page.
• Make a dove to remind you that the Holy Spirit is with you.
• Make the birdhouse to feed the birds and remind you that, just as the birds come into the house when you invite them with seed, the Holy Spirit comes into our lives when we invite him by giving our lives to Jesus.

Prayer:
Thank you, God that you have not only made a way for us to have the bad stuff in our lives forgiven, you have also given us your Holy Spirit to help us live as Jesus did. He always pleased you because he always obeyed you. Thank you that we can obey you with the help of the Holy Spirit.
