“KEEPING PROMISES”

2022 Theme: “Doing Life with Jesus”
Week 20: “Keeping Promises”
Weekly Bible Bite: Matthew 5:27-37

Video lesson:

Jesus had some instructions for adults about how important it was to keep our promises to our husbands/wives and to our families. He also said that people should be able to trust us. When we say something, they should be able to rely on us knowing it is true and that we are committed.

This week, we want to talk about the importance of keeping our promises. But first, what is a promise? It’s when you tell someone they can count on you! Do you have to say, “I promise…” to make it a promise? Not according to Jesus! Whenever we tell someone anything, they should be able to trust us as though we were making a promise to them. Jesus wants us to have integrity, so that when we say, ‘yes,’ we mean it and when we say, ‘no,’ we mean that too!

Family goal:
Have we promised to do something for someone in our family? How can we be sure to follow through?
[Be sure to pick a measurable goal involving a task so that children will know when they have completed it.]

Weekly verses:
Ecclesiastes 5:5-6a, NLT – “It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it. Don’t let your mouth make you sin.”

Family activities:
• Colour the picture that reminds us to be faithful (trustworthy).
• Make a bracelet (gimp and beads) as a reminder to be always be faithful and keep your promises.

Prayer:
Thank you, God for reminding us to be careful in the promises we make. Help me to be reliable and for others to find me  trustworthy.
